This is the thirty-first book in the series. It tells the story of how Dragomir Kozel and Emeline Sanchez came together.

Synopsis[]

In a beautiful compound hidden away from the world, Emeline Sanchez tries to blunt the pain that has wracked her body ever since her terrifying ordeal in the labyrinth beneath the city—when she was forced to exchange blood with an evil master vampire.

Now, it's his voice that haunts her... that calls to her in the dark... that never lets her rest. And while the children that she helped to free from his clutches struggle to heal, watched over by their Carpathian protectors, Emeline knows one thing: she must sacrifice herself to keep them all from harm...

For her beauty is irresistible to the vampires, her psychic ability like a drug. Whipped into a frenzy, they'll never stop coming for her. And only the taste of one Carpathian warrior—the rush of his blood—can save her...

Christine's Notes[]

I knew I would address several things in this book. I wanted to clarify how lifemates worked so people had a better understanding of it. I wanted to show how Carpathians feel about things like pregnancy, children and women. That was important to me.

I wanted to show that parallel between the hero and villain so we saw just how far behind the Carpathian are in so many ways and how that makes their enemies even stronger.

I love Emeline. She had a quiet bravery to her as she dealt with difficult decisions that would either put her in harm's way, or put others in harm's way and she was doing her best to do the right thing by everyone. I knew I'd stack the deck pretty high against her with vampire blood burning her and whispers from Vadim, with intolerable pain and moping in chaos. With all the things she had to endure, she couldn't entirely trust the Carpathian people, and then found her only salvation rested with one.
